FTAA: How Will It Impact Your Life?
How Has Anything So Momentous as FTAA Been Withheld From the Public Forum? Most know something about NAFTA, but the chances are you have never even heard of its vast expansion, the FTAA. The political and economic integration of the Western Hemisphere already impacts your life whether you know it or not. Will it eventually destroy the middle class? Has your job been outsourced? See why many of the middle class are declaring bankruptcy. How has this come about behind our backs, and how will it impact your life?
Here is a digest of ... an astonishing story told by investigative reporter Joan Veon about how she discovered the FTAA. One morning in 1994, Joan was having her cup of coffee and reading the morning paper when she happened to notice a small obscure article sayingJack Kemp wanted a common currency for all of the countries of the Western Hemishpere.
She gasped and said, 'What!!!'" In the article there was a vague reference to a summit in Miami called Free Trade Areas of the Americas. With investigation she discovered the FTAA was purposed to be a vast expansion of NAFTA.
Covering the second such meeting, in Chile in 1998, she discovered that all the cabinet level secretaries had been meeting for four years with their counterparts in the other 33 countries of the hemisphere. "Words Into Deeds," a report handed out at that meeting by the Clinton Administration, explained that FTAA, the integration of the 34 countries, would be in place by 2005. The signing of a document affirming the integration, by the presidents and prime ministers, was the closing ceremony.
Shivers went through my body as I realized this was a new "Hemispheric Constitution." During a plane change returning home she purchased all the English speaking newspapers she could find, and found nothing about what the FTAA was, or would do, or how it would impact the lives of the people of the US and Canada, politically, economically, socially and environmentally.
At the third meeting, in Quebec in 2002, she saw the presidents and prime ministers sign another "Hemispheric Constitution." Again, there was not one word in the mainstream press about FTAA.
She goes on to discuss what FTAA will mean. Already, under NAFTA, truck drivers from South of the border no longer are required to conform to regulations that apply to U.S. truck drivers. Environmental regulations that apply in the U.S. do not apply South of the border.
[Environmentalist groups who support FTAA, WTO, NAFTA, etc., are apparently unaware that they have been conned. Various clauses make them think the treaties are environmentally focused. They don't realize they have been given a sop. If they really were environmentally focused, the environmental regulations would apply globally, not just to the U.S. These treaties are fundamentally power grabs.]
Does integration of our currencies scare you? Under FTAA our dollars will have to lose value.
Furthermore, the FTAA has been set up as a public-private partnership. The governments involved are: The Organization of American States (OAS), the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank and the UN Economic Commission on Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). The Governments are the 34 countries and the private sector is the non-governmental organizations and multinational corporations that are on board.
Lastly, in researching the structure of the FTAA, I realized that the beautiful granite and marble building two blocks from the White House called the Organization of American States is a "congress" of all of the countries of this hemisphere. They have already their own structure, with the U.S. sending representatives to represent us in their regional dealings. This is not "hollow." President Bush recently held a joint press briefing with British Prime Minister Tony Blair. When asked about Free Trade, Bush replied, "My administration is committed to free trade-the first administration in a long time to achieve trade promotion authority from the Congress. And we're using that to promote free trade agreements on a bilateral basis, on a hemispheric basis."
Please note there has been no political and economic change between Clinton and Bush. The Globalists are running the world and you and I are pawns in the game. [Congress has no authority under the Constitution to give Bush trade promotion authority. The Senate has the responsibility to consent or withhold consent to each treaty. The Senate does not have authority to delegate its responsibility.]
Read all of Joan Veon's astonishing story
about how she discovered FTAA.
Apparently the plan is that the FTAA is to be implemented without fanfare. We will just discover it has happened piece by piece as it gradually, but increasingly, affects our lives, and we discover that our constitutional protections are no longer even given lip service.
How Will FTAA Affect You?
Following are highlights from America's Engineered Decline by investigative journalist William Norman Grigg ...
The Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), agreed to in 1994 by 34 countries in the Western Hemisphere, and scheduled to be in place by January 1, 2005, would widen and deepen the accomplishments of NAFTA to ...
... unite the economies of the Americas into a single free trade area ... in which barriers to trade and investment will be progressively eliminated. (Statement on the official FTAA web site, Oct. 28, 2003)
The barriers referred to are the characteristics of national sovereignty. Our national sovereignty is what our Founding Fathers fought and died for, to relieve us of the oppression of a long string of abuses occasioned by taxation without representation. Then they went to a heap of trouble to set up a government of law, constrained by the Constitution, elected by and accountable to the people. It was an experiment in liberty that resulted in prosperity and a strong middle class.
FTAA will be a big step in building a world government, bloc by bloc. FTAA, itself, will be the culmination of many steps including GATT, WTO, GATS, then NAFTA. Each has, deceptively, in the name of "free trade," increased control of trade and of people, with cumbersome regulations and a burgeoning regulatory bureaucracy of high paying jobs; and each has been a further assault on national sovereignty. FTAA will be a vast widening and deepening of NAFTA.
A Look at Where We are Now
With NAFTA and Its Precursors
Will Give Us an Idea
Of How FTAA Will Affect Us.
There is a Great Exodus Occurring as Manufacturing
is Outsourced to Several Countries, Including China and Mexico
In August 2003 thousands of textile employees in North Carolina, who lived in modest but comfortable houses, suddenly found themselves without work and facing foreclosures, eviction notices, or car repossessions, and shedding many middle-class amenities. Within weeks more than 200 were facing bankruptcy and had their water turned off. This was not because of increased efficiency or productivity, nor of a cyclical turn down of the economy. Textiles from Communist China and Vietnam had flooded the American market and forced the Pillowtex factory to close. And in 2008 all import quotas on Chinese textiles will be removed. Will any textile manufacturers survive?
This is not an isolated case, nor is it limited to textiles. Furniture, steel, cars, chemicals, paper, .... ad infinitum. How often do you see the label, "Made in China" ... or Sri Lanka, or Vietnam, or .... ? many other manufacturers have been forced to move to China, to Mexico, or to other countries, with like consequences for their American employees.
What about national security?
The erosion of our industrial base has made the United States dependent upon foreign countries for critical components. An important defense contractor, Dell Computer, is a case in point. 4,500 parts, manufactured in various Asian countries, including Communist China, make up the components of their computers. Control of supply, and even some of the technology, is now in foreign hands.
Not Only Manufacturing, but High Tech Jobs as Well,
Are Being Outsourced
Daniel Soong graduated in 1995 with a degree in computer science. With a position in an investment firm, he saw their numbers drop from 500 to 50 in nine months as they offshored. He found what he thought was a stable job with ChevronTexaco. Then he found he was training guest workers on H-1B and L-1 visas. (Our own tax dollars subsidize the outsourcing of our jobs!) Half way through his 6-month contract he received his pink slip. Like so many others in the tech field -- engineers, programmers, software designers, he had successfully trained his replacements. His job had been outsourced.
He sent his resume to India. There he was told it was against the law for him to work in India. (U.S. is not allowed to have such racist laws. See below.)
In 2000 Dell Computers opened a Design Center in Communist China. Then a steady flow of Red chinese engineers, project planners, and managers, were brought to Dell's Austin campus for training; and some U.S. employees began making trips to China to train Chinese personnel. In December 2002 Dell announced they were shifting their business to China, India, and other countries, and would begin a 10% per year attrition at the Austin campus.
Likewise, service jobs are outsourced -- primarily to India.
When you call, for instance, your computer support, the voice on the other end will, more likely than not, be in India.
Thousands of Costly and Burdensome Regulations
Are an Even Bigger Factor Than Cheap Labor In Driving Business Off Shore
Each year thousands of new regulations by EPA, Depts. of Transportation, Treasury, Agriculture, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, OSHA .... requiring a burgeoning bureaucracy for enforcement (at tremendous cost to taxpayers and staggering costs to businesses for compliance), are forcing businesses off shore.
Entire Towns Have Already Been Devastated By the Domino Effect
What Does the Future Hold?
The Federal Regulatory Apparatus
Is Sometimes Called the Fourth Branch Of Government
As American workers have endured hardships as a result of so-called "free trade." The burgeoning class of regulators and regulation enforcers, and administrators of welfare programs -- all high paying jobs -- have prospered at their expense and the expense of American taxpayers.
The Federal Register compiles the regulations that are issued each day -- more than 75,000 pages of small type in two columns -- regulations that are issued with the force of law by executive bureaucrats, unelected, and, therefore, unaccountable. These regulators also enforce their own laws, acting as prosecutor, judge, and jury -- a situation decried by James Madison as "the very definition of tyranny." ( Federalist Papers #47)
The General Agreement on Trade in Services, GATS, is steadily subverting the powers of our state and local governments, and brings literally every service job in the nation -- beauticians, attorneys, accountants, contractors .... under international regulatory control. GATS is an on-going process in which hordes of high paid foreign bureaucrats review state and local laws governing the licensing and certification of service workers ... and any other laws seen as impeding global free trade in services. All state and local laws will eventually be thrown open to challenge by foreign governments. GATS binds U.S. not to restrict either of the H-1B and L-1 visa programs for guest workers, regardless of the state of U.S. economy or level of unemployment. The U.S. citizen will have no way to influence legislation affecting our lives.
In the name of "free trade," the text of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), already comprising two volumes of hundreds of pages, provides for a growing bureaucracy of international regulators -- high paying jobs -- adding even more to the financial burden and removing it even further from the possibility of accountability to U.S. citizens. Trade is not free that is burdened by countless regulations.
In 1993 Henry Kissinger declared NAFTA to be only the first step to a new international system. ("Los Angeles Times" op-ed column)
The purpose of GATT/WTO, GATS, NAFTA, and FTAA, is not free trade, nor to foster prosperity, but for consolidation of power. Real free trade is the path to reduced government; the globalist counterfeit is a highway to universal serfdom.
Open Borders
This nation was built by immigrants. They have greatly enriched our society. No one desires to close that door.
Up until 1970 the rate of immigration kept our population pretty stable .... not growing faster than they could be assimilated or than infrastructure could be built to accommodate the growth.
In 1965 the quota was changed. Since then the ratio of immigrants -- plus only their first generation children -- to the rest of the population has been steadily increasing. According to census projections, at the present rate of immigration, by 2050 the ratio will be 157 to 253 (those numbers stand for millions with a total population of 420 million). By 2100 the ratio will be 371 to 200, with a total population of 571 million. Outside the USA, only in the third world do we find such population growths. (Those figures may not be accurate, as they may not reflect illegal immigrants, which may find ways of hiding from the census takers.) Besides that, there are several forces impeding assimilation. (Below you will see how you can learn more about this very important subject.)
President Bush's announcement of Jan. 7, 2004, to extend amnesty (an FTAA goal) to millions, or tens of millions, of illegal immigrants triggered a sudden rush on our southern border. Borders are indispensable for defining national identity, enforceable laws, shared language, and common culture, to say nothing of national defense. ... Bush's amnesty proposal was an assault on all of them.
Open borders pose a threat to homeland security.
One of the beneficiaries of the 1986 amnesty was a ring leader of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Between 1999 and 2002, 300 illegal immigrants from Lebanon were smuggled across our southern border. The smuggler is in prison for doing what would be legalized by Bush. How can open borders not be a welcome mat for terrorists? Where is the sanity? FTAA would only increase the risk, as our borders become as easily crossed as our state borders.
There are political considerations.
Hordes of immigrants have changed area population densities and caused the redistricting of House seats. In California's 31st congressional district, 43 percent of all residents are non-citizens. With FTAA immigration would become migration at will.
President Fox has said that he envisions that one day our common border will be no more restrictive than the borders between our states. Actually, his long term (not hidden) ambition is to reconquer our southwestern States, and he is working a plan to accomplish that objective. FTAA is part of his plan.
Who is Responsible for All These Regulations
of the Precursors of FTAA that Lead Always in the Same Direction: Surrender of Sovereignty -- Submission to Foreign Control?
Though we don't hear about these things from the media, some of the insiders do speak their mind from time to time ...
"[T]he "house of world order" will have to be built from the bottom up rather than from the top down .... [A]n end run around national sovereignty, eroding it piece by piece, will accomplish much more than the old-fashioned frontal assault ... [W]e will be seeking new rules in the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade to cover a whole range of hitherto unregulated non-tariff barriers. These will subject countries to an unprecedented degree of internatiional surveillance over up to now sacrosanct 'domestic' policies, such as farm price supports, subsidies, and government procurement practices that have transnational effects." -- Columbia University Professor (and diplomatic insider) Richard Gardner (CFR), 1974
And there have been a few far-sighted folk who saw it for what it was early on ...
"I am against GATT [General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, forerunner to the World Trade Organization] because it is part and parcel of international socialism, one-worldism, and the slow surrender of American sovereignty ... GATT ... calls for a vast complex of multilateral negotiations with many nations in a sort of world super-legislature where we have one vote ... Once wrapped up in this spider web, it will be difficult indeed to recapture any independence of action. -- Former Congressman Samuel B. Pettengill (D-Ind.), 1948
But part of their method of eroding national sovereignty piece by piece was to remove from the schools the learning of history and the Constitution, so that people would not recognize what was happening. And now, with FTAA, they are getting closer to getting it all into place.
"Eventually, Americans would find that they are powerless to affect decisions that affect their lives, livelihoods, and liberties, decisions being made by remote international bureaucracies. The value of our currency, the scope of regulatory burdens on our businesses, the amount we pay in taxes -- all of these decisions would be made by distant, unaccountable bureaucrats whose job is to administer policies handed down from the WTO and the UN, rather than represent the interests of Americans." America's Engineered Decllne, p. 46, William Norman Grigg
The above are only a few highlights from the well documented America's Engineered Decline, by William Norman Grigg. This very informative book ends on an optimistic note:
The FTAA Can Be Stopped.
See
more about the FTAA,
including an eye-opening article about how immigration will become simply migration of populations at will; and how you can participate in the current campaign to stop the FTAA. Mr. Grigg's book can be ordered on line at that web site. This small book is MUST reading for anyone who would thwart this horrendous assault upon our nation and our liberty. It can be done, but we must act NOW.
But, some will say ...
What About Charity and Compassion? Should We Not Welcome the Needy to Our Doors?Immigration that balances with assimilation is beneficial to both immigrants and the nation. Uncontrolled immigration will end by destroying the middle class. To what, then, will immigrants be able to aspire? Mexicans are kept in poverty by the policy of their embedded criminal ruling class, which encourages emigration to the U.S. instead of making needed reforms. In the long run, that emigration will not raise their standard of living, but will bring ours down to their level.
Our compassion and aid to Mexico is tantamount to enabling criminal behavior. Consider: Mexico is a nation endowed with abundant natural resources -- one of the richest in the world. It is rich in oil and precious metals. Its land is fertile. The climate is great for agriculture. Its people are industrious.
"A scientist who worked for Winrock International Institute for Agricultural Development (providing technical assistance and encouragement to underdeveloped countries worldwide) was asked the cause of poverty in countries that have abundant natural resources. 'Government policy,'" was his terse reply." -- Remarkable Remedy, p. 6, by Jean Carpenter
A further note about foreign aid in general. We are a generous people and willing to give aid wherever needed. What most do not realize is that this is a trait that is greatly abused. Most of the $billions from our tax dollars that are spent on foreign aid never reach the underprivileged. They buy favor of those in power, who are rich. In the days of Somoza my Nicaraguan friend once told me that her people wished we would keep our money at home. She said that what we gave to them only further empowered Somoza, a wicked tyrant.
What If Congress Does Not Wise Up To FTAA This Gigantic Plan That Will Destroy The Middle Class? Will We Have Any Recourse Then? The FTAA, as well as all its precursors, are unconstitutional, and can be undone by a people who are willing to put forth the effort to reclaim their nation.
What is Wrong With this Picture in the First Place? How Can All This Take Place Without the Knowledge and Consent of the American Public? Most Have Never Even Heard of the FTAA How can the President make treaties without advice and consent of the Senate? More than that, how can he make treaties that violate our constitutional protections? See what Jefferson had to say about treaties that violate the Constitution. Does the Constitution need fixing? Is there a remedy for the FTAA situation? Have we no safeguards against such abuse of power?
As a matter of fact, our Founding Fathers -- in their wisdom -- built into the Constitution safeguards that should have protected us from these abuses. But we, much to our peril, as we have just seen, through ingnorance fostered by our public schools, have allowed these safeguards to be set aside.
The Good News From much research that has been done and documented we now know that the safeguards assuring government accountability, were fraudulently removed. And for fraud there is no statute of limitations.
The remedy for FTAA is simple and is already in the Constitution. We don’t have to invent new law and hope it works. We know it works because it rescued our nation from certain oblivion in its infancy. The Constitution needs less to be repaired than to be restored to supremacy.
Discover the simple solution. Discover the series of frauds that shifted power and accountability which have led to the FTAA, and what can be done about them. Jean Carpenter spent years researching the facts and tells the story.
Is there anyone on the political scene today who understands what is happening with FTAA, and who has the wisdom and knowledge to bring our government back into line?
Glad you asked! As a matter of fact, there is a such a party. They know about the FTAA and they know what to do about it.
The Constitution Party is the largest and fastest growing minor party and has been gathering momentum since its founding in 1992. That year its standard bearer, Howard Phillips, was on the ballot in more than 20 states. In 1996 he was on the ballot in more than 30 states. In 2000 he was on the ballot in more than 40 states, and with write-ins was an option in 48 states.
The 2004 standard bearer is
Chuck Baldwin.
The goal of the Party is to limit the federal government to the functions delegated to it by the Constitution and to restore American jurisprudence to its original Biblical common-law foundations, including to
restore the sovereignty being surrendered
